The Arab Recycling Initiative

The Arab Recycling Initiative is the product of 7 years of development between UNESCO and a wide variety of stake holders. The Arab recycling initiative is a web based platform aiming to improve the waste management capacity of the Middle-East by improving the availability and visibility of information related to waste management in the region, as well making networks of stakeholders easily accessible.

The Arabic, and indeed international significance of our project is that due to the demographic distribution of populations within the Arab region, real challenges exist with the logistics of waste management, and we hope these can be solved with easily accessible maps which our researchers will generate of waste treatment facilities through-out the region.

The Arab Recycling Initiative provides the following services

  • It will be the foremost waste management portal for the Middle East by offering the most comprehensive waste exchange system in the region for the public and private sector, which can support waste management entrepreneurs to identify business opportunities.
  • Gather and provide waste management, information and statistics in the form of case studies on facilities, technologies, and materials.
  • Gather and distribute class materials for teachers regarding waste management.
  • Give an overview about regional waste management and offer an interregional/ international forum for sharing ideas, problems and solutions concerning recycling issues.
  • Offer a forum to regional projects on how to realise recycling ideas. (Teacher- Training seminars/Train-the-Trainer seminars)
